I learn best an instructor stays consistent in his/her style through the term, is available for inquiries and is on time and not absent!

Students: I learn best when I smile.

Students: I learn best when my professor converses. Education is not merely the telling of facts, but the sharing of experience. To ensure and secure the attention of his students, the "Professor" must give his words a bit of value; knowledge means nothing if it cannot be applied; learning is pointless if there is no emotion. One only masters what they love, and so the role of the professor is not to 'teach', but to woo and enchant..

I learn best when I "do" and I reflect in writing; my students learn best when I let them "do" and then reflect on it in writing. The reflection acts as a formative assessment for me and tells me if I'm ahead of them, or they of me and who needs extra of something.

I might be in a unique position here so I will post in both categories. I am a part time IT student, and I do some teaching as a volunteer (a technical subject, but not at a 'school' of any sort).

As a student
I learn best when I read the book AFTER the class.
I learn best when my professor provides information visually.

As a teacher:
My students learn best when I demonstrate what I am trying to explain.
My students learn best when they actually read the information in the book BEFORE the class, and ask questions.

1 similarity, and 1 opposite.

Why?

Differences in learning style, age/gender, something else?
